Why, you say would anyone need to have an old instrument as opposed to a new one? Time will only improve the sound of a well made guitar. As a guitar ages, so does the sound; mellow  is the word for a vintage guitar as the wood changes over time.
What does it mean to have a vintage guitar.

There are other factors that matter when you are thinking about a vintage guitar. A guitar  is more valuable if it is not available, perhaps made in a limited run. The Martin guitar company produced various models of an individual design in short runs.

The Les Paul Gold Top guitar had a particularly cherished finish and golden color which also aged well. With the Fender Stratocaster the quality was lespaulgold200x300more highly desired during an earlier time of the companys history. Famous guitarists lend their name and endorse special guitars known as signature guitars. The guitar is not vintage necessarily but it is more desirable and will be vintage someday. If a guitar was owned by someone famous, that of course makes it more valuable and increases its value. If the guitar was played at a big concert like Woodstock, that would make it more prized as well. A guitar that has a great sound will be valued regardless of the age of the guitar.
Guitar amplifiers are also considered to be vintage in some cases. Vox, Marshall and Fender amplifiers have particularly pleasing sound reproduction capabilities. The tube circuitry is largely responsible for the sound of these amps.

Many vintage guitars today are valued as works of art and are treated as such. To own a vintage guitar is to own a piece of modern music history.Knowing that so and so played the guitar really adds to its reputation  and enjoyment. Modern rock and roll came into being with these instruments.

Some guitars have been restored to play perhaps even better than they did originally.

I remember when I was bitten by the guitar bug. I was 10 years old and I just heard the Beatles for the first time. Now all I could think of was learning to play the guitar!

Back In my time there were no online guitar lessons, heck there was no online, period. You are so fortunate to be In this day and age and trying to learn guitar. So fortunate because you have at your disposal the most amazing array of guitar learning programs I could ever Imagine.

I recommend Jamorama for all beginning guitarists

It used to be that the only way you could ever learn was of course by and through your friends and watching other musicians or with a teacher. Now a teacher Is great and I always recommend that but in only a few lessons or sometimes even 2 lessons these days you could pay for one of these programs I am recommending and get a lot more for your money. You can read and play along with jam tracks and absorb the material at your own pace for literally years before you ever use up a couple of hundred bucks like you would in a few lessons.

When I started I got a self instruction book and went to work, no one to guide me, no road map except the printed page and desire. Over time my parents saw I was serious and paid for lessons with a teacher. Now teachers can be of many different skill levels and come from many different areas of expertise, so you cannot even say that just having a teacher is the best thing to do sometimes. If It is the wrong teacher It can be bad or at least non-productive.

Tuning the Guitar

Filed under: guitar — editor @ 1:59 pm

To be able to tune your guitar is one of the most basic facilities any guitar player needs. Tuning a guitar can be by ear or with the help of an external aide, such as a tuner. Regardless of how you tune, make sure you are in tune.

tuning procedures start with tuning the bottom string to a reference note. Then fret the fifth fret on the bottom string and this is what you tune the next string to. Do the same on the fifth string and the fourth and second strings. The third string you fret at the fourth fret, unlike the other strings. If you know how to tune your guitar by ear, then you can tune to another persons instrument and you two can play together. If you are faced with several instruments to tune together, do them one at a time so as to avoid confusion.iStock_000000437220XSmall

An electronic guitar tuner allows everyone to be in tune with each other. Tuning to the agreed upon standard, aka concert pitch allows the entire music world to be in tune. In order to make this tuning process easier, use a guitar tuner. With an electronic tuner all you do is follow a display to tune your guitar. If you have an electric guitar you can tune between songs in complete silence.

The tuner may have LED lights to help guide you in a dark environment as a concert stage and it may have a needle display to tune with. The acoustic guitar can also be tuned with the built in microphone on most guitar tuners.Musicians will make fine adjustments by ear after using the tuner as a base. The guitar tuner has made even the most basic player able to tune with ease.

You will often see guitar players using harmonics to tune their guitar. If you are unfamiliar with harmonics, touch a vibrating string at the twelfth fret and you will hear a harmonic. Using a tuning fork may sometimes be your only option, especially in classical circles, so be aware of this means also. If you are new to the guitar do not be afraid of learning to tune. If you are unsure how to use any of the approachs described here, ask your teacher to show you.
